In 2021, Green Energy Ohio hosted our First Annual Earth Day Virtual 5K Run, Walk, and Bike. We designed the event as a COVID-friendly way of exploring the outdoors and celebrating Earth Day with a personal accomplishment.
For 2022, we decided to continue the virtual format because it allows us to include GEO friends and supporters throughout the state. We’re also continuing our theme of “Healthy Me, Healthy Earth” – promoting our own healthy habits and the health of the natural world around us.
What we do in our everyday lives affects the health of the Earth, and the health of the Earth affects every aspect of our existence. There is no better time than Earth Day to honor that relationship.
WHAT
Run, walk, or bike 3.1 miles to complete your 5K (All at once or over the course of the weekend – we won’t tell!)
WHEN
Anytime Earth Day weekend, starting on Earth Day, Friday, April 22, and going through Sunday, April 24.
WHERE
Wherever – that’s the great part of this adventure! There are so many options throughout Ohio, starting with your neighborhood, a nearby park, a college campus, or a bike trail. Check out the Rails to Trails Conservancy map of Ohio or explore the new DETOUR app from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
WHO
Going solo can be an awesome way to experience the world around us. Or explore with friends and family and celebrate the sense of community that Earth Day represents.
